Bawdita htaung special greening Project

The project is located about 12 miles (19.31 km) east of Monywa Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Bawdi ta htaung greening project area covers 20520 acres (10125.23 ha) in area and has the peak elevation of 1962 feet598.02 m) above the sea level. Origional forest type of this project area is tropical dry deciduous forest. Soils are very poor having fine sand, stony soils, gravel soils and rocky soils. The tree species naturally grown in the area are, among others,Terminalia oliveri (Than),Tectona hamiltoniana (Dahat), Terminalia alata (Htauk-kyant),Shorea robusta (In-gyin), Acacia Arabica Wild.syn (Subyu), Acacia catechu (Sha), Vachellia leucophloea (Htanaung), Ribes uva-crispa (Ze-phyu), Grewia polygama (Tayaw),Hiptage benghalensis (Bein-new/Helicopter flower), Luffa aegyptiaca (Tha-byut) and etc.

Bawdi ta htaung special greening project is a 5-year project starting from 2019-2020 to 2023-2024 fiscal year. The project planned to plant 33500 trees per year in the first 4-year period of the project and in the last year (the fifth year of the project) will focus on maintenance operations. Along with tree planting, other land restoration/ rehabilitation activities such as conservation remaining natural forests, soil and water conservation and environmental education programs will also be carried out under the project as mentioned in the following table.

Tant Kyi Taung Region Special Greening Project

The project site is located about 35 miles (56.33 km) west of the Pakokku township, Pakokku district, Magway region, Tant Kyi Taung Special Greening project area covers 36910 acres (14936.95 ha) and has the peak elevation of 1040 ft (316.99 m) above the sea level. Origional forest type of this project area is tropical dry deciduous forest. Soils are very poor having fine sand, stony soils, compact soils and gravel soils. The tree species naturally grown in the area are Tectona hamiltoniana (Dahat), Terminalia oliveri (Than), Acacia catechu (Sha), Lannea coromandelica (Nabae), Vachellia leucophloea (Htanaung), Capparis flavicans (Saungkyan), Millusa velutina (Tha-pywut-gyi), Holptelea integrifolia (Phyaut-seik), Boscia variabills (Thamone), Sapium baccatum (Gwe), Hiptage benghalensis (L.) Kurz (Swae-ni), Erythrina arborescens (Kathit), Shorea robusta (In-gyin), Prosopis juliflora (Gandayasein) and etc.

Shwe Bone Taung Special Greening Activity

Shwe Bone Taung special greening region is located about 1 mile north of Chauk township and along the easten part of the Ayeyarwaddy River and Chauk-Nyaung U road. The famous Shwe Bone Taung pagoda is situated at the peak point with of 535 ft (163.07 m) above sea level. The total area of the project site where special greening activities are being carried out is 12379 acres (5009.60 ha). Origional forest type of this project area is tropical dry forest. Soils are very poor having sandy loam soil. The tree species naturally grown in the area are Oxytenanthera albociliata (Warnwe), Khaung-lay, Vachellia leucophloea (Htanaung), Acacia catechu (Sha), Prosopis juliflora (Gandayasein), Millusa velutina (Tha-pywut-gyi), Tectona hamiltoniana (Dahat), premnapyramidata (Kyun-pho), Tha-paut, Millettia brandisiana (Thit-bagan), Hiptage benghalensis (L.) Kurz (Swae-ni) and etc. As the micro-climate of around Shwe Bone Taung area is dry with low rainfall and as of annual rainfall, the area has 37 rainy days and 23.22 inches (589.79 mm) of rainfall in average per year within the 10-year period from 2010 to 2019.
Since 2000, to be able to use for greening activities, water from Ayeyarwady River is being pumped to 2 concrete tanks located on B3 rise having storage capacity of 20000 gallons (90922 liters) using electric power. The establishment of Neem plantation for Shwe Bone Taung greening purpose has started since 2001 and 3850 acres (1558.04 ha) have already been established up to 2012-2013 fiscal year. As part of the special greening activities, gap planting and supplementary planting with indigenous Neem trees using irrigated water from Ayeyarwady River is being implemented from 2010-2011 fiscal year to 2018-2019 fiscal year, are mentioned as below.

A total of 18650 plants will be planted for special greening purpose in Shwe Bone Taung site, Chauk Township in the fiscal year 2019-2020 (in 2020 rainy season).

Yenanchaung Greening Complex Zone Project

Greening Complex Zone Project has been being implemented between mile post no. (1/7) and no. (8/0) alongside the bypass road of Yenanchang township, Magway District, Magway Region. The project will be implemented for 5-year period from 2019-2020 fiscal year to 2023-2024. The project site is situated inside Yin Ma Chaung protected public forest (2430 acres/ 992.69 ha) and Nat Kan Oo protected public forest (1740 acres/ 704.15 ha). Project area is of poor soil quality and trees are very sparsely growing (almost bare land). Therefore, this project aims to restore the forests and trees on this bare lands and to re-green the roadside reserved forests and thus to be supportive for socio-economic development of the local communities.
